BPJS and its relevance for expatriates has long been a topic of debate, as many foreigners are uncertain about the personal benefits of the scheme. However, BPJS enrollment is now mandatory for all residents of Indonesia who have lived in the country for six months or more.
For expatriates holding a KITAS, active BPJS registration and up-to-date payments are required. Without BPJS compliance, KITAS extensions may be denied.
Everestindo is here to assist you with your BPJS registration and ensure you remain fully compliant, avoiding delays or complications with your stay in Indonesia.
BPJS is a government-mandated social security program in Indonesia designed to provide universal protection for all residents. The scheme covers essential benefits, including healthcare services, pension programs, workplace injury compensation, and death benefits. Its primary goal is to ensure a decent standard of living for participants who experience loss or reduction of income due to illness, work-related injuries, old age, retirement, or death.
BPJS is divided into two main programs:
• BPJS Kesehatan (Health Insurance), which is mandatory for individuals
• BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Employment Social Security), which is required for companies to provide coverage for their employees
Compliance with the appropriate BPJS program is essential for both individuals and businesses operating in Indonesia.
This program is mandatory for individuals living in Indonesia and provides essential healthcare protection. Participants can choose from three different classes of service, each offered at a progressively higher cost and providing enhanced benefits and coverage.
If you are a business owner, you are required to register all employees under the BPJS Social Security program. Employees working for a company in Indonesia will be registered by their employer and issued a Social Security Card.
Freelancers or self-employed individuals who wish to obtain coverage may register as Independent BPJS Social Security members.
Basic protection includes:
• Old Age Protection
• Work Accident Protection
• Death Benefits
• Pension Protection
Monthly contributions to the Social Security program are shared between the employer and employee, with contribution amounts based on the selected coverage and the employee’s salary. Independent members are responsible for paying their own monthly contributions.
Please note that BPJS is not a comprehensive insurance product. If you require broader or specialized healthcare coverage, we recommend obtaining additional insurance through a private provider.
